Pyongyang’s annual marathon is your chance to run the streets of the capital along with hundreds of locals and visitors — the most amazing race of your life!
The Pyongyang International Marathon, also known as the Mangyongdae Prize International Marathon, has been open to amateur runners since 2014. You can run the 5k, 10k, Half Marathon or Full Marathon. The race is an International Associations of Athletic Federations (IAAF) Bronze Label road race with Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) certification.
Every runner of every distance is invited to participate in the race’s opening ceremony, which involves a lap of Kim Il Sung Stadium before heading out onto the streets of Pyongyang. All runners then have the chance to finish their race inside Kim Il Sung stadium in front of a capacity crowd of 50,000 people. It’s the closest experience to being in the Olympics!
The race is officially open to runners with disabilities, such as those using wheelchairs or visually impaired runners. If you have any special requirements, then please contact us for more information.
The date of the 2020 Pyongyang Marathon has been confirmed as Sunday, April 12th Liberty Tours are offering a choice of two: either Option 1: Fly, Run, Go (9 Days, 8 Nights) option for $3490 per person twin share over the marathon period or Option 2: Fly, Run, Explore (13 Days, 12 Nights) taking in various other parts of North Korea as well for only $4190 per person twin share – something for every everyone.
Those people choosing the longer tour will have the thrill of seeing huge numbers of North Koreans turning out on the streets to celebrate Day of the Sun, the 108th anniversary of President Kim Il Sung’s birthday. It is sure to be a celebration unlike anything you have every seen.
